To the Members of York Curling Club:
We hope all of you had a safe and enjoyable holiday season and we wish you all a Happy New Year!
There has been some promising news on the Covid vaccine front and we are making plans for a fall opening.
Late in the summer, the Ontario Trillium Foundation, which is an agency of the Government of Ontario, announced a Resilient Communities Fund to assist organizations to implement changes to recover from the impacts of COVID-19 shutdown and to prepare for the post-COVID world. In September, York Curling Club submitted an application; and in December, we were advised that our grant was approved.
The grant application included funding for touchless automated door opening devices, air purifiers, technology upgrades to improve communication and minimize common touch points and funds to offset sanitization products and increased operating costs.
In total, the club was awarded $83,400. The work will progress during the shut down period and the club will be in a position to provide a much safer environment to members upon reopening.
We would like to thank MPP Christine Elliot and the Ontario Trillium Foundation for their support of the community in these unusual times. In addition, thanks to Phil Woodard for spearheading the Ontario Trillium Fund application process on behalf of the club.
Looking forward to seeing you all back in the fall.
Wayne Brakeboer, President
and The Board of York Curling Club
