The painting "Curling on Fairy Lake" hangs above the fireplace at the club. Painted by Katherine "Kit" Robinson in 1963, the painting measures almost 8 feet by 4 feet.
All of the curlers depicted in this painting were actual members of the York Curling Club in the 1962-63 season. Kit, a non-curler, sat behind the glass for several evenings sketching all the players on the ice. The artist then transposed her 'curlers' on to an imaginary rink on Fairy Lake in downtown Newmarket.
A concentrated effort was made recently to name all of the curlers. A few remain a mystery but we have a remarkable painting to commemorate over 50 years of curling and fun at York Curling Club.
