(Qualifying teams:  Must have curled in at least one round of open doubles during the 2018/19 season)

The dates for these events are:

Wednesdays:  March 20, 27 and April 3, 2019, 9:00-10:30pm

Thursdays:  March 21, 28 and April 4, 2019, 9:00-10:30pm

There are a limited number of spaces available, it will be first come, first served.

What to expect:  The day will consist of two 6-end games, two draws during the event.  Snacks and dinner will be served.  Silent Auction, prizes, music and tons of fun! 

Draw 1 participants should plan to arrive between 12:00-12:30pm.  On-ice instruction will be available for new curlers from 12:30-1:00pm, before the first game at 1:00pm.

Draw 2 participants should plan to arrive between 2:00-2:30pm.  On-ice instruction will be available for new curlers from 2:30-3:00pm, before the first game at 3:00pm.

NOTE:  In the event that this bonspiel is not full we may go to a single draw format.  You will be contacted in this event.

**Please ensure when signing up multiple guests that there will be at least one player per team who is knowledgeable in the rules and play of curling.  There will be 30 minutes instruction time given at the beginning of the spiel when the knowledgeable curler can provide instruction to their guests so that when the first game begins they will have a basic understanding of the game and be ready to play.

York Curling Club is holding a skills analysis clinic for curlers with a year or more curling experience (ideally 2-5 years curling experience) who would like to improve their delivery. This clinic will take place at York Curling Club:

York Curling Club is holding a refresher clinic for any York Curling Club member who would like to improve their delivery. This clinic will be highly beneficial to newer curlers as it focuses on delivery and basic skills.  There will also be opportunity for more experienced curlers to tweak their deliveries and improve performance.

For the 2018-2019 curling season YCC is offering a number of 5-week rounds of Open Doubles on Wednesday and Thursday evenings, 9:00-10:30 pm.

Wednesdays and Thursdays are two separate events.

Round 3 of these events will begin on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 and Thursday, January 10, 2019 respectively and run for 5 consecutive weeks each.

First week of registration for these events will be open exclusively to teams comprising of two YCC members.  For the purpose of these events, and to take advantage of this exclusive time period, one participant on a team (currently not a YCC member) can obtain membership status by first registering as a practice member ($120).

After one week, if the event is not full, registration will be opened up to teams consisting of one current YCC member and one non-member.

YCC is offering a 2-hour "learn to curl" session

Tuesday, March 12, 2019

for the low cost of only $20/person!

This session is limited to 8 participants.  You can sign up as an individual or get a group together and sign up together.

Participants should arrive by 10:45 am to stretch, fit shoes with grippers and receive instruction before going onto the ice.

Participants are required to bring (carry in) clean, dry, rubber-soled running shoes (flat bottoms are best).

Warm, loose clothing, in layers is best for curling, and gloves or mittens are highly recommended as the ice shed is about 3C.

Helmets are not required nor provided for those above age 12 but are recommended for all new curlers.

Grippers, brooms and step-on sliders are provided.

Acknowledgement of Risk and Release of Liability Waiver required to be signed before stepping onto the ice (provided at the club).

This rental is for 8 participants and is booked for one sheet of ice from 8:00-10:00 PM on Sunday, March 11, 2018.

The lounge will be available for your use after this event until 11:00 pm.

The fee for this event is $20/person.

A waiver for each participant is required to be signed (please see home page).

Clean, dry running shoes are required, warm clothes and gloves are recommended.

TRAVELERS CURLING CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP CHALLENGE - 2018

 

Register your team for the challenge to represent YCC in the TRAVELERS Curling Club Championship.

 

1 Women’s and 1 Men’s team can represent YCC in this OCA competition held in October 2018.

 

Teams must be teams that curl together regularly in a scheduled YCC league.

 

Women’s teams enter by interest.

 

Men’s teams eligibility follows

  • Top 4 teams in Tuesday Night Team entry as at the end of draw 4, Feb 27, 2018
  • Top team Wednesday afternoon Team entry as at the end of draw 1
  • Top team Thursday afternoon Team entry as at the end of draw 1
  • Top team Monday evening house as at the end of draw 1
  • Top team Thursday evening house as at the end of draw 1

2018/2019 TEAM ENTRY CHALLENGE

MONDAY LADIES ,TUESDAY MENS, WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON MENS, THURSDAY AFTERNOON MENS, FRIDAY AFTERNOON OPEN, SUNDAY MIXED

To secure a spot in the challenge playdowns for the 2018/2019 season for any of the above leagues you must:

  • Submit your team online at yorkcurlingclub.ca in the EVENTS section no later than midnight Feb 28, 2018
  • Your entry must include all 4 names of the players for the team.
  • For each player who is currently not a member of YCC (maximum 3) they must submit a cheque for $100 payable to York Curling Club prior to Mar 1 2018. This is a non-refundable fee which if your team is successful will be applied to that player’s 2018/2019 membership fees.
  • Playdowns will be held April 7-8, 2018 – timing to be confirmed and posted in March.
  • Playdowns will involve the bottom ranking teams from the existing season as determined by specific league rules.
  • Playdowns will follow OCA double knockout rules and schedules

If you are an individual that is interested in a team entry league but do not have a team, email your name and contact information to the appropriate convener and we will post your information on the bulletin board for other like-minded individuals.  Please check there to make those connections.

2018/2019 LADIES MAJOR LEAGUE CHALLENGE

There are 2 Major Leagues that York has a single spot in each which we open up for challenge.

The first, East End Major League (EEML) is a long standing day ladies major league which involves 8 curling clubs across the GTA. Participating clubs are Bayview, Granite, Leaside, Richmond Hill, Thornhill, Scarboro, Unionville, and York. Played on Friday mornings.

The second, Eastern GTA Major League, is a fairly new league currently involving 5 clubs. Participating clubs are Annandale, Tam Heather, Oshawa, Uxbridge and York. Played on Wednesday or Tuesday mornings.

The format of the leagues is 8 games played through the season. A single round robin of play, played at the various participating clubs, is followed by a fun day and awards lunch at the club running the league that year. Responsibility for running the league rotates through the participating clubs year over year.

York has a single spot in each league which we open up for challenge. To secure a spot in the challenge playdowns for the 2018/2019 season you must:

  • Submit your team entry online at yorkcurlingclub.ca in the EVENTS section no later than midnight Feb 16, 2018
  • Your entry must include all 4 names of the players for the team and the players must be existing YCC club members
  • Identify which Major League you would like to challenge for.
  • Playdowns will be held in March, schedule to be confirmed and posted by Feb 23, 2018
  • Playdowns will follow OCA single knockout format with byes awarded to the current league teams

 These Learn-to-Curl Clinics are open to non-members of the club -- so this is a great opportunity in a friendly environment to gain a "first experience" with the sport.

 Focusing on adults who have little or no curling experience.

This program will run as a series of 4 weeks. The sessions will operate at the following times: 

   YCC Learn-to-Curl Clinics -- 2017/18 Season

Sunday, November 19, 2017 6:00 - 8:00 pm

The 4-week program will cost a flat-rate fee of $80.00 per participant, and advance registration is required.

Participants will have access to club brooms, sliders and stabilizers. They should dress comfortably and warmly, wear either curling shoes or clean indoor running shoes which should be carried (not worn) into the Club, and bring gloves with a good grip.

Participants should arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the published start time to be ready to go on the ice at the scheduled time.
