OLD REFUND POLICY - UPDATED Effective May 3, 2021.

York Curling Club

As a non-profit facility, the York Curling Club (YCC) relies on membership fees as its primary source of revenue to fund its operations year over year. Annual operating budgets are established based on projected registrations. Many of the club activities that go into making YCC a successful entity are the result of volunteers who oversee the business operations of the club.

Policy Statement

Upon receipt and processing of an applicant's registration and placement on the membership registration list, it is the position of the York Curling Club that there are no refunds of membership fees.

Exceptional Circumstances

Certain circumstances may dictate that the Policy Statement may be reconsidered.

What exceptional circumstances may be considered for refund?

  1. Youth (Junior / Little Rock) curlers trying curling for the first time and decide they do not enjoy it may receive a full refund prior to the 3rd week. No administrative fee will be incurred.

  2. Any member that sustains an injury or illness prior to January 1 of the current curling season and is incapacitated for the balance of the season may receive a refund of 50% of their membership. No refunds will be considered for any injury occurring on or after January 1. No administration fee will be incurred.

  3. Any registered member who decides to withdraw their registration prior to the September registration date may receive a full refund. A $50 administration fee will be incurred.

How do I request a refund?

Requests must be submitted in writing to the Board of Directors (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) outlining the request.

Effective Date: June 1, 2015

Since this program was started in early December, $3,874 has been donated by 25 of our members and families.

These funds will be used to offset Covid related equipment and supplies; as well as utility, tax and insurance costs which still need to be covered despite the club's closure.

Through the Ontario Curling Council and the National Sport Trust Fund, we have established a charitable donation program where you can contribute to the York Curling Club - Covid-19 Support Fund.

You will be provided with a tax receipt for this year if you donate before Dec 31 and the club receives about 94% of your contribution. You can access the form to contribute to this fund from this link or from the new Fundraising Menu Item on the YCC Home Page.

We also have some amazing sponsor's to thank for making contributions to the club this season despite the lack of their usual exposure. A HUGE thank you to:

Chartwell Retirement Residences (Barton, Alexander Muir and Park Place),

Jill Renshaw, Broker - Royal Lepage RCR Realty, Brokerage,

Stay Safe

To All York Curling Club Members,

We reach out to you today to convey the news that based on the current reality of the prevalence of COVID-19 in the Province, the decision has been made by the Board of Directors that York Curling Club will be closing for the remainder of what would have been our 2020-21 curling season. This decision is disappointing but ultimately became unavoidable.

The decision to close comes from the current state of affairs in York Region, where we find in the RED Control Zone due to the growing rate of COVID-19 within our community. We worked through the end of the summer and into fall, following both public health and the curling governing bodies’ advice, in implementing measures that were compliant with everything required to put us in a position to be able to open. Unfortunately, while navigating rigorous preparation during a pandemic, once the rate of community transmission began to rise, it was no surprise that York Region Public Health and Province began to impose many restrictions for our safety.

Throughout the past ten months, we have worked diligently as a Board, first in taking the prudent and necessary step to close our doors back in March, and then continue following both governmental and public health orders and advice as we worked to prepare to potentially be able to open our doors safely in this new world. Ultimately, regardless of preparation, we find ourselves here today with the announcement that there will not be curling at York this season.

We had hoped to plan a February start, however, the level of interest based on the survey results was low and with the continued growth in COVID cases and the anticipated spike following the holiday break, the Board has decided to keep the club closed for the 2020-21 season and plan for the 2021-22 season.

Refunds have been issued for all those that had registerd for the November 1 start-up.  Some cheques have yet to be cashed.  If you have not received your refund, please follow-up with Jack at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

We have been receiving queries from members, whether they could make a financial contribution to offset ongoing costs during the shutdown period.  Through the Ontario Curling Council and the National Sport Trust Fund, we have established a charitable donation program where you can contribute to the York Curling Club - Covid-19 Support Fund.  You will be provided with a tax receipt and the club receives about 94% of your contribution. You can access the form to contribute to this fund from this link - York Curling Club - Covid-19 Support Fund.  On the YCC website you will see a new Fundraising menu item, from which you could link to the donation web page.   Thank you in advance to all those who contribute to the ongoing operation of the club.

Please stay tuned to your email inbox for further information and updates as we move forward, and do not hesitate to reach out to Jack or any member of the Board with any questions you may have. We hope you are all doing well and staying safe.
